And Chicago Tour
We undoubtedly need to present the NBA and the Chicago Bulls, of the mythical Michael Jordan.
A little historical review…
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the leading basketball league in the world. Created on June 6, 1946 under the name BAA (Basketball Association of America), the league was renamed NBA in 1949 after its merger with the NBL (National Basketball League)1. It is one of the four major professional leagues in American sports, alongside the NFL (American football), the MLB (baseball) and the NHL (ice hockey). The NBA headquarters is located in the Olympic Tower at 645 5th Avenue in New York. In 2015, NBA players were the highest paid athletes in the world3.
The NBA place…
After its beginnings in the post-war period, the NBA saw its popularity increase in the 1960s, marked by the domination of the Celtics and the rivalry between Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain. After a slump in the 1970s, the league gradually developed outside the United States from the 1980s onwards by welcoming non-American players and benefiting from the popularity of star players like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and especially Michael Jordan, considered one of the greatest athletes of all time. The NBA is currently considered the most prestigious basketball championship in the world in terms of level of play, attendances and audiences, even having its own television channel (NBA TV). It also created two affiliated leagues: the WNBA (women’s basketball) and the NBA G League (minor league).
How it works…
The championship includes 30 franchises, divided into two Conferences (East and West), each including three divisions. One of the franchises is Canadian (the Toronto Raptors). After a regular season beginning in October and comprising 82 games, the eight best teams from each conference compete in the playoffs (playoffs). The Finals pit the best team in the Eastern Conference against that of the Western Conference. The team that manages to win four games first is named the NBA champion. The Boston Celtics dominate the list with eighteen titles followed by the Los Angeles Lakers with seventeen titles, followed by the Golden State Warriors with seven titles, the Chicago Bulls with six titles, and the San Antonio Spurs with five titles.
