There is emotion at this historic site which is a magnificent testimony left by one of the oldest civilizations in the world: the Nabataeans. The first site in Saudi Arabia to be classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra, which recalls the nearby Petra, is a set of remains of 111 monumental tombs with facades sculpted with inscriptions and rock drawings that leave you absolutely speechless. For two hours, your professional guide tells you many anecdotes and details that allow you to learn more about the Nabataean way of life. You obviously make a stop at Jabal Ithlib, a sandstone formation which displays thousands of inscriptions and drawings dating back to the 6th century BC. You leave as you arrived, in a vintage Land Rover driven by your guide, which has retained all its charm..
Sit comfortably on a sofa there, in the middle of the desert and observe this famous geological formation that nature has shaped: a magnificent rock shaped by the effects of erosion (water and wind) into the shape of an elephant. At a height of 52 meters, this elephant in profile with its trunk skimming the ground attracts all the attention and becomes even more dazzling in the sunset light. The spectacle is absolutely magical in this breathtaking setting of red and golden sand where other sandstone sculptures also emerge here and there
